I only have ever gotten 2 aftermarket barrels. I got them both from Jim at Apache Gunworks. He was amazing to work with. He can answer questions about length and twist rates. I can't say enough good about him or his work.
I have an older model 110 I'm wanting to rebarrel to 6.5x55 for longer range shooting.
This will be my first target build & I need some advice on barrel selection.
Both are available in a straight, bull profile. 416 Stainless & 1:8 twist.
Douglas offers theirs up to 28" where ER Shaw only goes to 26. Do the extra 2" make enough of a difference to worry about?
The Shaw also comes in 1½lb lighter
The Shaw is a little cheaper (around $50) & money is a factor.
I have very little experience shooting anything beyond 500yds, but I'm hoping to be able to progress out to 1250 & possibly further (our range goes to 1760)
Which would you get & why?

If the difference between the two is only 50 then there is no question. Douglas. The next question is, who will be doing your chamber?
I was actually thinking of getting it done by whoever supplies the barrel. Is there any reason why this is a good/bad idea?
Would you recommend anyone in particular?
I have a Douglas in 308 that was chambered by SSS. This is an outstanding barrel.
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
what does outstanding mean? I know of 2 guys that win lots of shoots
using Shaw barrels....one in 223 and the other in 308 ? I think..So
that makes them outstanding ,just saying..Get what you can afford and shoot it..
Being a winner may have to do with the competition. I win lots of Chili Cook-offs. I am certain that most of them I didn't have any (real)competition.I know of 2 guys that win lots of shoots using Shaw barrels
Don't forget about us!
Here's a recent video showcasing one of our barrels reaching out to 1,760 yards:
If both barrels are finished chambered & threaded for the action, and are new barrels, for $50 difference
Where are you able to get a prefit barrel for a Douglas ? For price difference go Douglas.
Goto Douglas directly. They will chamber thread taper and crown.
They will even headspace if you send your receiver in
