I built my 6.5WSSM (Garfield) on a small shank action. No problems with pressure at all.

I see a number of 308 and 300wsm barrels for sale. If these are cut down (chamber end faced off), can they be chambered for a wssm round?
My concern is whether there is enough of the larger diam shank on a factory contour to thread and safely handle the chamber pressure, ie. how much of the larger diameter is for appearance/contouring and how much is needed in front of the chamber/throat to handle pressure.
Thanks

Savage starts their contour taper right at the end of the threads so there is very little room for setting back the chamber or rechambering. Most aftermarket Savage barrels will leave 1-1.5 inches of no-taper ahead of the threads to facilitate rechambering in the future.
