Thats the entrance. Looks like I hit the leg bone, and everything just exploded!

What was the distance? Looks like that pill was still running full tilt and exploded.

    Yeah, wow, I'm not surprised.

30 yards...velocity will do that. I think even if you missed the bone going in, your exit would have looked like that anyway.

I assume you're calling from stands? One of the big reasons I use my 223 and not my 22-250 when calling (that and it's half the weight to carry!). If it was just a target of opportunity, then these things happen. If I was specifically after fox, and calling, I'd probably go down to my 22 hornet.

I shot a huge, beautiful bobcat a year and a half ago at 30 yards with my 257 wby mag (deer rifle), but this just happened to be a target of opportunity at the time. He just walked right up on me. If I had been gunning for one, I'd have had a much smaller rifle (223). Trust me when I say the damage on yours looks tame compared to the damage I did to that bobcat. As far as I could tell, I missed bone going in and out ( I tried to hold to the back of both shoulders 'cause I knew it was gonna be bad), but I blew him up rather badly.

I never have liked "high speed" rounds for calling. Not if I'm shooting something that may have good fur, fox, bobcat, and it's cold enough in the season for the fur to be good. Now if it's summer time, and pretty much any coyote, then I don't really care what I hit them with, as no one is interested in the 'yote fur anyway.

Wow! That's a hot cartridge. Incredibly, my state won't allow it for deer. On my first African hunt I shot a jackal with a hot 300 Mag, 200 gr bullet. He was about 200 yards out and I felt lucky to have hit him. I couldn't see what happened but everyone said he turned into a big red spot. They didn't have to do any cutting to clean him since the major organs were lying all around, but no one could find the liver. My buddy wanted a Civet cat to mount so he had a 22 Mag and that seemed just about right. Thanks for saving so many turkeys.

Oh yeah 30 yards all that needs said. ;D My all time favorite for fox is 22WMR but when calling you never know what will come in.
