One possibility.
Much to my disappointment, it appears that B&C doesn't make an A2 Medalist for the Savage long action. I was hoping to put the Medalist on my winter 260 build since I already have a donor 110, but now I'm going to have to audible to an alternative.
What would the forum recommend in terms of a quality but reasonably priced (sub-$300) LA varmint-type stock? Despite good reviews I'm not entirely sold on the looks of the Choate Varmint or Sniper stocks...

One possibility.
choate tactical or get a stockade prairie dog in the money saver and finish it yourself (if you have time to wait).
I have a choate tactical in la and sa, and have had the medalists before. I think the fit and finish on bell and carlson products is better than the choate stuff. Have you thought about laminates?
I have a choate varmint that I used this deer season I did some modifications to it. I painted it OD green and dremeled the the pistol grip to give my fingers a contour feel also the cheek rest so that I could remove the bolt. It's great feeling stock with a steady rest, but it is heavy to tote around thru the woods.
I picked up a thumbhole from stockystocks
*NEW!* Long Range Varmint (LRV) from stocky stocks I had to do some sanding in the barrel channel and the lug stop. Good feeling thumbhole, got the bedding material on its way. Nice little winter project.
I'll post pics of the choate stock when i figure it out
Why not get a BVSS or VLP stock from the classifieds they show up every once in a while or check with Northlander and Numrich.
