I have a large shank PTA and as you might guess, finding a pre-fit is tough. I complicate things by wanting Varmint contour barrels. I have a question.......if you turn a bull barrel does that introduce stress to the barrel?

I believe a standard blank is larger than a "bull", so even bull barrels have been turned down. turning down in two steps (blank to bull, bull to varmint) should not cause any difference in stresses than if the barrel goes from blank to varmint in one step. that's the way I see it, but I'm not a barrel maker.
Sporter contour barrels, not everyone shoots targets. I would like to see either a 25-06 or 257 Weatherby with a 26" lighter weight barrel.
Bike Effects,
The stress is very minimal. We're taking very shallow passes on the cuts, are flooding the heck out of the barrel with coolant. Also we incorporate an air clamping system on the barrel that keeps the barrel rigid during the lathe passes. Our feed and speeds are dialed in to reduce any stress caused by removing material.
Would just like to see the 280 Ackley I ordered seems like months ago.
