Also considering 6.5-284 Norma, that might be a little more long action friendly.

I have a 300WM 110, staggered feed, small shank, pre-Accutrigger. Since I don’t use it much and I’m looking to get more into long range shooting, I’m thinking of building this rifle up.
This is what I have in mind:
26” pre-fit bull barrel, preferably in 6.5CM.
Aftermarket stock or chassis that allows use of AICS mags— leaning toward MDT.
Timney trigger.
Oversized bolt handle.
These are my concerns:
I know this action is a bit long for 6.5 Creedmoor, what kind of issues will that cause? Can the LA MDT chassis use an SA AICS mag?
Also looking for recommendations for the new bolt head.
Has anyone made this conversion? Any advice or cool pics would be welcome!

6.5x 284 is probably going to work a little better... I built a 260 Rem Match on a Long action (111) and it works and feeds darn well. When single loading, the round will sometimes nose dive when trying to feed, but not when I load the mag and feed from it. the 6.5 Creed is a little shorter, but I think it will still work pretty well.
That's about all I can comment on other then going with a 26" prefit. I'm a CBI fan as I have 3 really good barrels from them, but would go with a Shilen also.
Have you thought of a 7MM-300WM for long range? 300 WM case necked down to a .284 bullet... It would reach out there!!

I have thought about the 7-300, it’s very tempting but I’m looking to burn a little less powder with a bit less recoil. Haven’t totally ruled it out though, I sure have plenty of 300WM brass. Glad to hear the good reports on Criterion and Shilen, those are the two prefits I’ve been looking hardest at.

You won't be sorry with either one IMO, but I can only vouch for CBI from my experience. The 6.5x 284 and the 7-300 are going to burn barrels about the same rate, maybe a little faster with the 7-300. Your recoil is going to be reduced some anyway just by dropping down to the lighter 7mm bullet, but with a good muzzle brake it will reduce it even further. Just hate to waste all that good 300 WM brass you have.
But back to your original 6.5 CM thoughts: it should work in the long action... I built my 260 in the LA on purpose so I could seat my VLD bullets out as far as I needed to reach the lands and they still feed from the mag with room to spare. I really like mine.
Good luck,
What stock and mags are you using?

I am running a Boyds Coyote laminate Pro Varmint with the standard bottom metal and mag that Savage uses for wood stocks.
Tac Beard,
Is there any reason you wouldn't consider the 260 Rem as apposed to the 6.5 Creed? Seems like you're a reloader, so you'd be able to get an additional 50 fps from the 260 over the 6.5 Creed all things being equal. Ballistics are a wash down range.
I have chrono'd my loads... I shoot the 143 ELD-X using 43 gr. H4350. I am running a 25" 8 twist Varmint contour CBI in 260 Rem Match (Match chamber is throated longer for the VLD bullets) my barrel is a little "slow" to some others, as I am able to achieve 2745 FPS with the max load in my rifle. My load has a COAL of 2.953 inches. loads are 2.32 base to ogive measurement.
I've had no issues with feeding from the mag. I can't cycle the action at Mach 1 speed, but under normal cycling it works fine. Mag length has room to spare as I said previously. The only time I have issues is when I'm single feeding... if I don't set the round just right on the feed lips, it will nose dive and not feed into the chamber.
I know what you mean... I did research for 2 years almost before I finally made a decision. It's been put together for a little over 10 months now, and I have NO regrets on going with the 260 over the 6.5 Creed.
For what its worth I just put together a 6.5 Creed (unfired 26" 10T-sr takeoff) into a Stevens 200 LA with a B&C Duramax and an SSS target trigger....Best shooting 6.5 that I have ever had. Out shooting my former best a Shilen 260 (which also shot lights out) also on a LA 110.
The Creed feeds fine out of the blind centerfeed (30-06 mag) and ejects perfect.
You shouldn't have trouble with either providing you find the right magazine and bottom metal.
Good Luck on your build,
Randy
Thanks Randy, I’m giving myself fits trying to decide on mags and bottom metal...

All of my savages are long actions and I have been using them with long action and short action cartridges including a 300 win mag. I also have a 7mm08 in a Savage/Stevens 200 with a MDT chassis. Works fine with no problems. Just get the 300 Win Mag AICS mags. Slightly adjust, tweak. the ears to work with the smaller diameter brass and all will be fine.
i'm almost done with a similar build. 28" lothar walther .260 barrel built off of a 110 300wm in a boyds pro varmint with PTG DBM. just need to pillar and bed it then take it out. I wanted the long action to be able to seat the vld's way out there. hoping for 3000 ft/sec with 140's using RL26 should be a huge improvement over my .308
