the us navy used them because THEY WERE AVAILABLE FOR TESTING, NOT ENOUGH BERGERS ON THE SHELF.
so the navy round he speaks of will lock up a stnd 300 win mag action.
the load is 3.5" not 3.34, the mil does not reload, a case full of h1000. the use a stiller custom action not a savage.
    and a 26+" lilja bbl.
OHHH AND 68KPSI NOT SAAMI 65KSI
and a custom 300 wm reamer( i own one)
none of this is a kit gun made from off the shelf parts.
i have one, i shoot both the std mk248 mod1 (220) load, and i shoot
230 bergers even faster with reloader 26.
    i also just built a 300 wsm...target rifle
300 wsm is much better in a long action...bullet choice does not impact powder volume.

there is a die made for sizing belted mag brass at the belt..then it lasts a long time.

A 220gn smk will shoot way way out there.
And within any normal range 1200yds will anchor animals.

The US Navy use them for a reason.

pretty silly to build a rifle and limit yourself to a saami chamber.
you can throat for a bullet and not mess with brass chamber size.
most custom 300 wsm's are done on long actions

decide what bullet you want to shoot, what distance and then work on which case/chamber..

there is a big hazard listening on the internet
yes the navy shoots a 220 smk
specifically in a SEAL mk13(mod7+) sniper rifle
with a stiller action not a savage
with a custom reamer, not saami
at 3.5 oal, not saami 3.34
    at 68kpsi, not saami 62kpsi
with a case full of h1000 to get 2800 fps, which you cannot do with saami specs
i have a mk13 sniper rifle, it is not a savage off the shelf parts gun
do not try this at home

It’s just a Remington off the shelf 700 action with a barrel.
    Savage works fine.

Thanks for all the input and all the insights and experiences. It will be built on a ss long action. I am kind of leaning towards the won mag because of all the factory loads available even though I will be hand loading.

    as usual you are WRONG.
IT IS A STILLER MK13 ACTION, like STILLER TAC300 WITH LOSER TOLERENCES.
do not listen to this guy.
