YES you can, i have some Mil. Match and use it in my three 308 rifles
I know this has been asked. But I can not locate it with a search.
A friend gave me 10 boxes of Federal Premium Gold Medal Match
marked 7.62 X 51mm (GM762M2) 175 Gr Sierra MatchKing.
Can I use this in my Savage model 14 bolt action .308 Win
I have asked several people this question and have not been
given a direct answer. Maybe their is not one.
I asked Federal and have not heard from them yet.
Has anyone shot these in their Savage .308 Win
or any opions.
Thanks

Yes - perfectly fine.
Thanks guys for responding to my question.
That is just what I wanted and was hoping to hear.
I just received an email from Federal CC they concured with you.
Yes, you can use that in .308 Win chambers.
thanks again
Just a bit of FYI...
That round is basically just a civilian marketed M118LR.
I don't know about currently, but during the early days of the M118LR, Federal was the actual manufacturer of the round, using Lake City military "match" brass and producing the rounds the same way they make their Gold Medal civilian ammo. The 7.62x51 Gold Medal ammo is basically just a copy of that round with Federal-branded mil-spec brass and placed in commercial boxes.
Unlike the 223 versus 5.56 ammo debate, it is typically considered safe to use 7.62 Nato rounds in 308 rifles. The 7.62 has looser headspace specs and a bit longer throat but is actually loaded to slightly lower pressures than some types of commercial 308 ammo, likely since the 7.62x51 was originally designed for the M-14 and similar gas-operated military firearms.
The 7.62x51 Gold Medal ammo typically sells for a bit less than the 308 Win version of the 175gr Gold Medal. But I still wish I had a friend that would give me 10 boxes of it
