Yup, sound like it wasn't properly cut. Give the supplier a call and explain the situation. They should make good on it.
Finally recieved my Pac-Nor bbl in 6XC this week, and when i put the headspace gauge in the chamber, it went almost flush!!! No extractor groove sticking out, only about .010-.020 above the flat of the bbl??????? A new case, sticks out with the extractor groove showing plus maybe .010......Gauge is marked "6XC". From a well known supplier.......If i did set bbl headspace by gauge, it won't even be close to chambering....Send it back??? Thanks for any help...rsbhunter

Thanks, i was 99% sure, but it is only my second build, and better to ask, than explain to an ER doctor....rsbhunter

You said this is a new barrel also? Is it a 6xc chamber? Was the chamber cut wrong? Do you have any 6xc brass to compare the gage to? You can compare the measurements of your gage to the specs here http://www.davidtubb.com/tcom_images..._dies_six.html
Hope it is in fact the gage and not the wrong chamber cut...........
Tbob reread his post. He tried a case in it and it stuck out of the barrel.
Willing to give back for what the sport has done for me!
Thanks for the headsup. Totally missed that. I want my money back from my speed reading classes..... ???Originally Posted by jonbearman
.010 to .020 sticking out of the chamber is within range. Use a piece of "full length" sized brass and forget the gauge. Worked on my last 10 builds with no problems.
Oz never gave nothing to the Tin Man, that he didn't already have.
I'm assuming the case you inserted in the chamber is a 22/250 (28 degree shoulder angle) The 6XC has a 30degree shoulder. Not a huge difference but enough to cause the hd space gauge and the 22/250 case to contact @ different datum points & give dis-similar readings/ depth in the chamber. A cartridge HD space gauge insert for a Hornady Comparator is in order here........ Depending on the Mfg. of your F/L die, sizing an unfired case could reduce your CARTRIDGE HD space by as much as .007" to .008" or more compared to a PROPERLY chambered bbl. The folks @ Hornady can tell you if they have a proper cartridge HD space gauge for your cartridge. David Tubb can be reached @ 806-323-9488. I'd put a LOT of faith on his input. He wants the 6XC to succeed!!!! He might have ideas for the cartridge HD space gauge also. I'm sure NorCals idea will work. But why alter the design of the cartridge & give up case capacity to boot ??? Dale
PTG makes 6XC gauges, many places stock them.
This IS a PTG gauge....i'm going to call them today, but i'm betting it's either marked wrong, or was machined wrong....No big deal, i'm using a new case...just didn't have any when i ordered the gauge, they came in before the bbl did.....rsbhunter
