At 100 and 200 yds you will be happy with a short barrel. All that extra barrel length gets you some velocity to keep things going at long ranges.
Does anyone have any experience with a .223 Rem,1-9tw using a barrel length of say 20"-22"? I'm thinking about cutting my 26" barrel back to about 21" for better balance in the rest. This rifle now has the Savage F-class stock with bedding. I shoot 100 & 200 yrd benchrest. Any loading/accuracy reports would be appreciated.

You will be happy with it, the barrel pretty much cuts it's self off too, well it is almost that easy.
I have the model 10 LE with 20" barrel and at 100-200 yards shooting 60gr Sierra's it stays well under moa.Last time out shooting at 100 I shot my tightest group to date,.191, then shot a .294 with called flier both 5shot groups, then shot a .574 10 shot group so I would say go for it from the way mine shoots.

21 3/4 or 21 3/8 is THE benchrest length. Forgot which.
21 3/4 is the supposed most accurate length.
