I'm changing from 308 to 7mm-08 as well.Going to load 120 NBT using Varget. Did some researching and 45grs is avg for speed and accuracy. Also going to try imr 8208 as well. of coarse work up to 45grs of varget.
I have changed the barrel on my model 10 to a Stevens 7MM08, any suggestions on bullet wieght. I am interested in shooting 600-700 hundred yards. I measured the rifling at 11" to 1, thanks in advance for your help.

I have had great results with IMR 4064 and 140gr Nosler BT.
The 140 grain bullets are excellent performers to the ranges you want to shoot and are the max weight that will work well in the 11 twist.

Thanks what I was looking for
I'm shooting 160Gr SGKs in my 1:11 barrel with great accuracy, 160Gr SGK with Varget is a devastating combo.
I have been told that the slow twist barrel wont handle anything more than 140's.Keep in mind that savage has used 1in9.25 twist and 1in 11.25 on newer ones and is now going back to a 9 twist. I would check the twist in the barrel shooting the 162's and see if you got one of the earlier production 9 twist barrels, that might anser why you are getting such fine results.
Willing to give back for what the sport has done for me!
