This was setting on the ground using a tall bipod. Wasnt that steady
Ok just a little history on the rifle. It's a pre accu-trigger 110. Stock trigger lightened. 28" mcgowen 1" full bull barrel. Jp enterprises recoil eliminator. Choat ultimate sniper stock. Assembled by me. Headspaced off a once fired neck sized case.
The rifle was zeroed at around 280 and was around 16-18 low at 400 with my reloads. Which were 139gr hornady sst with max load of hodgdon h4831. It was minute of horse apple repeatedly at 300.
I shot all of them up and had a new box of factory Winchester silver tip ballistic 150gr. I figured I would shoot them up. So I Aimed at a hole in a sign at 400. Wind was 6-7 direct right to left. And baaad heat mirage. I just threw three down range in about 15 seconds to see where it hit compared to my reloads.
Well it was only 1.75 or so low and had a 3 shot group of exactly 1 3/8! I was not even trying to group.
So these shot abou 14" higher then then 139gr at max load at 400! I am sold!!
I put a dime up for size comparisons.
The wind startEd kicking up so I left after this. Can't wait to go back and actually shoot for groups with no mirage! I see a 1" group possible. Factory amo and a home built rifle.

Wait until you try 162 AMax bullets. :)
Or Berger 168's.....Try retumbo for powder......although i had good luck with RL22 and 160 Partitions....the 7 mag is what they shoot alot on "The Best of the West " show, out to 1000+ yards, and hit consistantly!!!!! That is excellent shooting, wait till you shoot a group and can't believe the size yourself!!!rsbhunter
If you stand for nothing, Then you'll fall for anything!
Well I have a 1-10 twist barrel and was afraid it wasn't fast enough for the heavier bullets. But after contacting Berger and telling them I had a 1-10 28" barrel they said that they recommend a 1-10 for their 168gr vld and at 3100fps will be more then stable to 1000 which is the limit of my range. I built this as a hog gun and hear the vld is decent on the tough hog
WOW It will shoot ever better with better bullets ;D
I am happy with my rifle. I have less then 700 dollars in it including optics not including purchase price of base rifle. Which I have had for ages.
All my buddies were like buy a 700 rem, they are better.
After searching high and low for a bull barrel 7pm remmy I gave up. And the prices were rediculous for the rem.
Il never buy another 700 after building this savage.!!
Also, you all may scoff at my optics but I have put them through their paces and they are legit!
Box tests, shock tests. I have doped my scoped endless number of times in the last 5 months and it ALLWAYS goes back to zero.
Its a Simmons 6-21x44 side focus. 120bux from midway. I'm buying another to put on my 300 unbraked rifle to see how it works
I have the same scope on a stock model 11 300 wsm and it has no issues. Great buy.
Nice. Glad I'm not gonna be bashed for my lowly optics lol
Here are a couple pics of my savage
