First post so bear with me. I have a Savage 7mm Win Mag that I would like to play with. My question is, can I ream the stock Savage barrel out to STW specs? I believe I will have to single shot it, but that does not bother me. Thanks

Sorry bout that. I used the search function, I swear. I searched out about 10 different questions that I wont be asking. Thanks again.
the rum and stw are pretty close to the same length. a new barrel would be best unless you are extremely fond of your current barrel.
Was just thinking about changing things up. I do live close to Pac-Nor, so....... Don't tell the wife.
I wouldn't go with anything less than a 26" barrel and you should be able to put one shell in the mag and still chamber one for at least a two shot repeater. I have the larger action and with my Bergers set out long I have to do this.
There have been a couple of threads about modifying the mag box and port on a standard action, try and search for those threads. But hey with the STW you only need one shot. All my kills have been DRT shots. Maybe I have been lucky with shot placement but I feel that the enegy that this caliber hits with is the key.

This is not really related to this post but, I typed in Savage 338 Edge in YouTube and the first video up was a gentleman test firing an Edge with a 18 inch barrel. Kinda defeating its purpose.
that would light up the sky at night thats for sure
It is a very easy convertion. Just ream the chamber to the stw specs and it is done.
Just let you know with a 26" bbl I get 3624 fps avg. velocity and with a 24" I get 3514 fps. avg with the 140 gr. that kills elkand moose or what ever is on the docket a looong ways away .
The stw will shoot right with the 7mm ulta with less felt recoil and a bit less powder.
The 116 I use to own would put 5 shots into less than 1/2" with factory and 1 ragged hole with hand loads.
makes the 7 mag look sick, LOL.
Enjoy, it is a hoot. BTW it is fun to pop chucks and pd's with as well.
The 25 caliber version is kinda sweet too!
