Not in my opinion - clean it well, degrease the bore and chamber, and blast away.
Just purchased my first centerfire - Model 12 BVSS - 223. Going to shoot a few P. dogs and punch holes in paper. My question " Is it worth it to scrub the barrel with JB even before the first shot? I know there is a world of knowledge on this site and I would appreciate any comments.
Thanks PMoore

Thanks - Eric, any comments about barrel break-in?
I'm a believer in barrel break in. It certainly wont hurt anything. Here's a how to link from the Savage website

Good luck BHJ
A good wife and a steady job has ruined many a great hunter.
I've had good luck using the Final Finish product for the first 50 rounds

Yeah ! what he said and they shoot great too !!Originally Posted by 1Shot

On break in just shoot it, I have never seen where a shoot and clean break in has ever made a lick of difference.
I am not a big fan of Tubb final finish, it is just too aggressive IMO.
