Hey guys,
I'm sure everyone's well aware of the general unavailability, and now price issues, of the Reloder series of Alliant powders. My problem is with RL 17. I have a really good load using RL 17 in my Remington XP-100 chambered in 284 Winchester w/ a 16" barrel. The past few seasons I've gotten by using ammo I've already loaded, but my inventory is almost gone. After the most recent jump in price (it's now $77/pound on Natchez), I've decided it's now time to make a change. I thought I'd start w/ something I already have. Possible replacements in my closet include: H414, H380, CFE 223, Varget, Hodgdon Hybrid 100v, RL 15 (velocity was disappointing when I tried it earlier) RL 22, Shooter's World Rifle Match and N140. Are there other alternatives I should consider? I've read good stuff on N155, but pricing and availability for it don't look much better than for RL 17. I'll be using bullets weighing 120-150 gr. Thx for your help.
Good luck and good hunting.

Varget for the short barrel and light bullets, and especially if you decide to ever
use the Berger 140gr Hunter. H-4350 for everything else. It's a shame IMR-4451
is no longer available. It probably was as close as you could get to R-17 and get
some temp stability.
