Ok. I've had an Axis7-08 for about 4 years. Wears a camo stock and a Leopold scope. Nothing wrong with it. I paid about $150 for the rifle new, sale and rebates, etc. So I don't have a lot of $ in it.
However, I don't have 6.5CM, and I'm in the process of making a Stutzen style 7-08 Mauser 48 with a 20" barrel. So, I started thinking about adding a 6.5 to the stable just due to the less expensive and really good factory ammo a person can buy. Only thinking about picking up a 22" unused pull off barrel for this project.
So to those that have the Axis 6.5CM, how is your accuracy? I don't expect .25 MOA. But I would like to have a reasonable expectation of around 1 MOA hunting rifle outcome.

Well, sounds like a good project. For inexpensive the Axis is good. Mine now has the .308 barrel from my Model 12. Started with a .223 that was much more accurate than I am. The original .223 was 1/2MOA and the stainless model 12 barrel is probably best ranked as a 3/4MOA although I have a bunch of 4 round groups less than 1/2MOA. These are reloads with decent bullets.
Ultimate accuracy depends on the barrel first so what you buy there will be critical. Having said that, there seem to be very few Savage factory barrels that are not decent shooters. So, for a 'fun' rifle it should be a nice shooter.
Don’t think 1moa is much of a stress. Good factory 22”, 6.5CM barrels seem to be plentiful. Several on EBay at the moment for around $100 or so. Getting one unused may be asking a bit much(For cheap). However, I would not make that be necessity.
Don't forget these guys

Thanks all. Very helpful.
Who knows, I might even restock it.

Factory 22" on my Axis II precision works. This is not boxed ammo, it is the hand rolled load I made with 140 ELDM and H4350
Fired off bipod and rear squeeze bag. Lapua SRP brass. 500 yards I pushed third shot out of the group.
I want to rebarrel the 6.5cm to get longer barrel in SS for long range F Practical.
Welp, sadly the image of the SMT Solo target does not show up here.

Did you come up with a barrel? I purchased an Axis for the action to use as a project. Pulled the unfired 22" 6.5CM FROM barrel (somewhat scuffed). But I would let it go for the price of shipping.
No. Never progressed further. I'll happily take you up on the proposal.
Just pm me on how to get you the payment.

Not that you asked but I will share some 6.5 stuff I worked on earlier in the year, this load really destroys whitetail deer. I have always had an issue with the 6.5 CM as to bullet speed, so I set out on a mission --
I really like bullet speed and have been working to make the 6.5 CM scream, think I got it!
TEMP 95 very hot day! Light recoil, a pleasure to shoot.

Textrout, Site does not give me PM priviledge, PM your address, I'll ship it to you send me $30 when you get it. I've had problems with the site since day one.
I'm not able to PM you either. My guess is that there is a minimum number of posts required such as 25.

Hey guys, no buying/selling aside from the classifieds section.
Herzo, txtrout is correct about needing a number of thread responses before PM is available. I believe 20. What “problems since day one” are you referring to?
Not selling. At the $ suggested it is a gift to a fellow shooter's daughter. Just want shipping.
