Any thoughts, anyone?
I pulled the tang sight on a Savage 1899 rifle to adjust left to right as I was getting groups 3” to the left. A sliver of business card under the left side of the sight means I’m now spot on left to right.
I am fairly certain this sight is original to this rifle, the rifle dating from 1907.
Under the sight was stamped ‘SA’. I had thought ‘S1’ was stamped on the underside of Savage 1899 tang sights. What’s the difference? Are Marbles sights stamped ‘S1’ and Lyman sights stamped ‘SA’?
A factory letter is forthcoming. (They are on sale now). Would a factory letter note a tang sight or not if factory original?
Any thoughts, anyone?
I found an answer to my questions, and on this forum, too!

It’s a good read and very informative, as well!
Now it makes sense!! I looked in my Savage book and there was no reference to Lyman just a 1B or 2B sight.
But they are obviously Lyman!
Yeah, Lymans would be stamped SA underneath rather than the model name. Even the Lyman 29 1/2 or 30 1/2 have the SA. Early Marbles would have S1 on the bottom.
The ledgers almost never mention a sight, though there might be a work order number. The work order would indicate something non-standard was done to the gun.
