Almost all recoil lugs are bored to fit the factory savage barrel thread diameter of 1.055". More than likely, wrapping some 220 roll sandpaper around the threads, with a good squeeze on the sandpaper and a few twists of the wrist you will see the major thread diameter reduce in diameter relatively quickly. Take it slow and make sure that the recoil lug has some room(just a smidge) to move on back and forth without binding. Clean your threads well before mating them up.

This will not affect the thread "fit". The pitch diameter controls that. Savage barrels are .007 smaller on the major diameter than nominal. This keeps you from having an issue with the mating parts 'thread valley". In this case it would be the major diameter of the actions internal thread. It is very close to 1.062" . Having the male thread major diameter close to that can be an issue.

Good luck
