I just bought a 300 wsm for conversion. I do not have it yet but I would not order a barrel until you get your hands on the new rifle just to be sure. I have read befor that early savage wsm were built on standard shanks.
Just made a trade for a 270 WSM Savage. Now, as I understand it, all of the WSM rifles are large shank. Is this correct? I am going to build a 243 wssm rifle and have some large shank barrels located which can be chambered for it. They are all large shank. Wanted to be sure before I bought one.

This rifle is new manufacture, so I THINK I am pretty safe. Still trying to decide whether to take the chance and go ahead and buy the large shank.
