It cross references as a Stevens 940 or Springfield 947 so that would make it a Savage Arms manufacture.
I just finished repairing an old 20 Ga. single shot that has the J.C. Higgins (Model 101.40) logo on it. I found the wood parts from GunParts and had to modify the forearm a bit for it to fit. They were listed under Savage but I don't know who actually built the gun as I couldn't find anything online about that particular model. Sorry about the title. That was supposed to be "Higgins" not Whitney (having a Senior's moment).

That's where I got most of the parts I needed to put it back together. Some of the metal parts aren't available in new/re-manufactured form so I did some modification to make the parts I had work.
