Nice setup.
So I finally finished this thing. Only took me 10 years.
Dual port target action
Mcgowen 338 edge, 30"
Boyd's pro varmit stock
Nikon black fx1000
Seekins rings
Homemade cheek riser hardware and bolt knob
The standard trigger guard is screwed to the stock only. The stock is a blind mag, so I milled out the rest of the stock from the recoil lug back to the sear. This allowed me to fill the stock with a 3 screw aluminum bedding block. I then cross pinned the block to the stock. The action was then bedded.
Nice setup.
Good cartridge choice, better than the Lapua with the Savage, and will show it with good bullets.
Suggestion, forget the 300s and go for the velocity with 250s.
I have to work up some loads. I managed to get 4 boxes Berger 338 bullets when they first started making them. I also have a few hundred 300 gr SMK so probably going to see what I can do with them first. The only range near me only goes up to 600 yards, I can get out to about 800 yards on my property. I need to find a place to really see what this thing can do.
Well I wouldn't be wasting the barrel on those distances. Id be getting a load that works well at about 400 yds, then find a suitable place to shoot the gun. You no doubt have the places, maybe lots of them, just in need of a little creativity with a chainsaw and a pick and shovel.
If I asked the percentage of red cars, id probably be told not many, until you look hard and start counting them, and you will only need a few good ones.
Great looking rifle!
Schemi,
Really nice looking build!! Looking for your thoughts on that Nikon Black FX1000. How does it track? I just bought one for my Pop and haven't had a chance to test it.
Nice looking rig!!! You might think about the Hornady 285gr ELD-M as well. You get more velocity then the 300's and their BC is amazing! They shoot great in my 338LM.
