Awesome shooting! I did this to get into DBM: https://www.eabco.net/Savage-Detacha...n_p_15372.html
If you do something stock wize to get into a detachable box magazine, be sure to change the front baffle on your bolt to a long-action baffle. Our short action bolts have a baffle with an extension on it to make the bolt-throw shorter. This prevents the bolt from coming far enough back to pick a round up from the AICS Magazine. I ordered a long-action baffle for about $6 from XLR Industries, and until it comes in, I borrowed the long-action baffle from my Savage 110 .270. Works like a charm! The choate is a great stock in my opinion. If you're confining this thing to bench use, it is phenomenal. At nearly 15 pounds it sure isn't a carry around all day rifle though.
I got a Boyds AT One thumbhole on mine. Probably take some skill to convert, which I am usually short of. Might talk with my gunsmith buddy and see what he thinks. Thanks for the info!
No they are not light weight mountain rifles but dang they are sure fun to shoot! Lots more fun than my stock Win. 70 in 300 mag. about 10 rounds off the bench from that monster and the fun factor is dropping pretty quick!
Shoot well

If you get a real itch for a detachable box, contact Jeff at CDI Precision machine (cdi@cdignition.com). He sells the savage short-action bottom metal for about $150. If you send him your stock he will inlet for free (I think...verify) as long as you buy the bottom metal from him. He does Boyd stocks for sure... from his website: "This DBM requires replacing the factory stock with a Boyd's stock(order at Boyd's and have them send it direct to us for free inletting) Boyd's has many styles and colors to choose from. Pic shown is a Boyd's thumbhole stock with MDT 10 round 308 magazine. - http://www.cdiprecisiongunworksstore.com/savage-axis-short-action-dbm/)
Sweet, thanks TxRoadlizard, I will check it out.
My sale flyer reads $319.97 for the 6.5 CM or .308 WIN only.
Run until your heart bursts
Sure now that the rebate is gone and I have spent my gift cert, they have these two calibers on sale.
Got my flyer in the mail yesterday, was hoping the sale covered all calibers offered in the 12FV but disappointed to see only two.
They just had the other "3" on sale for a month, with the rebate about the same price. I was put off as they didnt have the 6.5 on sale then.
204 Ruger was but 22-250 wasn't included in the sale, see my 2.07.19 post here. I'll keep watching.
You must be referencing when they were liquidating the 204s? Because at the beginning of January they, 204 to $329, the 223 and 22-250 down to $349.
Could be. If the 22-250 comes on sale like the current offer, one will have my name on it.
My Cabela's shows all calibers at $319.
This is almost less expensive than a drug habit...just broke down and bought another 6.5 Creed. $312 out the door with tax and using 10% discount gift cards off the interwebs. Think I will just hang on to this one until some project comes to mind.
Last years deal was awesome but this year is still too hard to pass..I’m planning on buying just for the action so I’ll have to buy a 6.5 because those 6.5 barrels are selling for a lot more than the others!
There is a Cabelas in Oklahoma City. May have to make the trip if they have them!
I would complete the order online pickup in store option if you live a little further out just to make sure you get the one you want.
Bass Pro Shops has the same deal as Cabela's.
Yes, the problem is that Bass Pro's inventory system sucks. Cabelas showed all calibers available for order, but Bass Pro did not. The local Bass Pro here said they only had 2 308s in stock, but when I asked them to actually go look they had all calibers. You may be lucky and snag one in store (don't count on the website inventory being accurate), because if not the 308s were the only ones available for order online as of this morning.
