OK it looks like it is not deep enough. With the action laying in the inlet the vent holes are low. With the barreled action they sit high.
Possibly. I just had to hog out the lug channel towards the trigger gaurd about 1/4in to get the action to fit. There is still plenty more fitting work to be done

The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.
Last night I started to finish hogging out the barrel channel and I've got about all but the last 2in free floated.
After I finish hogging the barrel channel I'll start on the pillars but I've don't have much more to go until i can start laying the lacquer down and putting some lead down range
well finaly got off my butt and got the thing head spaced and did some work on the stock ita late now but ill post pictures tomorrow

I removed a ton of material on the left side of the stock near the action where the action is milled. The radius around the back of the action where the safety had about 1/8in that needed to be knocked down. Around the ejection port the wood was a tad tall so I removed it and then in the area where the bolt release is I had to bring the cut about 1/2in forward and down some.
All the removal in these steps was a heavy rasp file. There is still a lot more fine finishing in the mentioned areas where im going to radius the edges and the. The major work will be on the forend where im going to taper the front a bit and possibly shorten it. I'll be starting my tapering just after the barrel nut. Then to pillar bed it and find the right color stain and spray some nice lacquer.

I've been wondering what ever happened to this project.
I stalled out because I moved to Texas what I'm back now

Got the bolt handle cleaned up pin break. After work I'm bead blasting the action as well as the barrel because they're two different finishes

I'm sure glad you could find your project after a move. Very interesting following your progress.
I blasted the barrel and action and everything looks good now.

She was feeling photogenic tonight. The camera doesn't pick up anywhere near the character this piece of wood has but oh well the results will speak for themselves soon enough.
I have a hard decision to make and what colornto make it. I already have a custom blended mahogany and black walnut stained .270Win thats gorgeous so that color is out. What would you do?

Oh interesting. You could just purchase a Savage 7.62x39 mag, part number 55221.
My guess is that you would have to call Savage for just the follower.
Yea I've been looking for the follower with no success.

Today i did most of the finishing work on the stock. I took the bottom half down to 500grit. I only did the bottom because I still have to contour the top half with a belt sander
These I think are the best pics. I may try to get a small video clip showing the shantoyancy
Pretty stock!
I sanded for about 3 hours today. My arms are beat
