If it was me the 99F would be the one, even if It needed a little more TLC !!!
Hi folks, new from Montreal and newbie to SAVAGE - I am looking at 2 Savage 99's for sale in my area both in 308 - same price $400...one is a 99E birch colored stock very good condition - non scoped serial starting with B943XXX and the other is a 99F walnut stock,,a little rougher looking comes with a Bushnel scopechief scope (which I figure is past its prime ) serial starting 104xxx...advise on which is the better rifle? thx for guiding me towards the best decision. Pic of the 99E...can't seem to upload the F

I would take the bore condition into consideration, but my first impression based on your description would be for the 99F. Especially if you intend to scope either and assuming the 99E hasn't been drilled for a scope base (possibly in the .308 Win era it was at the factory - I don't know).

thx..the 99E is pre drilled,,it has two small screws on top
I like the 99f because it has a walnut stock and no stamped checking !!!
That^. The F (Featherweight) was a bit upscale and lighter.
