I have one too, there's no S/N on it. It was made before the feds required them which I think makes it before early 40's.

I just picked up a Model 342. My first venture into Savage and first venture into the .22 Hornet.
I usually pride myself in research and ID abilities but this one has me stumped. No serial number - not unusual - but I can find nothing on even ranges of dates this model was manufactured. I have looked and looked and I am sure I have overlooked or missed some obvious source but I can't seem to find one.
Any and all help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

My mistake, 1968 is when SN we're required. My grandfather bought mine from a guy in the late 40's

According to the Blue Book of Gun Values (not the most reliable source I will note) the 342 was manufactured from 1950-1955. Basically a Model 340 adapted to accept the smaller Hornet cartridge.
