I'm thinking they are referring to the barrel (chamber and muzzle), but I would suggest you contact Boyd's.
When ordering a boyds stock it tells to measure from point a to b ( example) but they don't have the pictorial showing what point a or b are

Action screw spacing is what you should measure... To make sure you order the correct stock so your action screws will fit in the new stock. Other than that, it's just left hand or right hand, standard barrel channel or Bull channel, and short or long action.

At the forward edge of the receiver/rear exposed portion of the barrel and then 9" forward of that.
