Yes the did 1 in 12 back a long time a go. (60's-70's)
Did savage ever make a 1-12" or 1-14" sporter barrel in 223. I am experimenting with reduced velocity/light bullet loads. So for my 1-9" is just giving so so performance.

I would imagine a aftermarket barrel maker could fix you up right.
I'm trying to keep this a pretty low cost experiment, so I guess I will just have to keep working with what I have.
Thanks for the info

I bought a 112FV in 223 in the early 90's that has a 1 in 12 twist. It shoots 40 grainers great. Also had a 340 from the early 80's that had a 1 in 14 twist. There was no 1 in 9 twists back then.
I have a Sav 110 of some flavor .223 that appears to be a 1:12 or more based on trying to pull the largest cotton I could through it... I coudn't get reliable numbers but it is certainly far slower than a 1:9! I have no idea how old the gun is, however. I may have no use for the barrel later this year, but it does NOT seem to be that accurate!! Its the sporter barrel.
I just ordered a 1:13 twist Shilen 6PPC Savage Prefit. Shilen will make you any of a range of twists, some quite slow; others will too, I'm sure. The vendors on this board appear to be able to get a much better price than the "retail".

Doc,
I would be interested in your barrel when your new barrel comes in. I am planning on cutting it down to 18" and recrowning. That will probably bring the accuracy back. Let me know what you want for it when you are ready.
Thanks
