Picked up a 12fcv in 6.5 creed black friday. After having to clean up the front mount hole and have a gunsmith buddy modify tge egw rail I bought for it because the hole spacing was off. Finally got to shoot it.
4 shots Hornady black. Top one was zero shot at 100. Then cleaned it and shot the group below. Roughly 3/4".
Then 3 shots fgmm 130 berger. About 1"
Hornady american whitetail 129 gr sp about 1/2"
Another with the 129 Hornady. The 2 to the right I shot trying to focus on the vertical to make sure I was 2" high. Before moving the scope left I decided to bear down and center the diamond as a previous zero shot was dead on. I think If I did my oart it would one hole this load.
Overall very satisfied. I was planning on replacing the tupperware stock but not sure now lol. It is nose heavy but I don't want the over all weight much more. About 10# now dressed out. If Savage would answer my email may try to get the dbm parts off a 12fv. This centerfeed blind mag sucks loading. Looking at the bc m40 if I can get the savage parts.
Well I dont know whats up with photobucket.

Hornady black
From what I hear and have read, keep shooting and cleaning it and it will get better. It looks pretty good now. I know what you mean about the muzzle heaviness. I put steel bases and rings, and a Vortex 6.5-20x44 scope and it kinda helped balance the weight out. With some careful reloading you might have you a bugholer.
OJ is right, clean the barrel and your groupings will tighten up...12FV is a solid shooter...Good luck

Shot it some more this morning. Everything was sub moa for 5 shots. Now to load some 140 eldm. I walked into the local reloading store and lo and behold they had 1 lb bottles of H4350. Kinda pricey but this stuff is hard to find.
I’ve got 3 1 lb’ers and an 8 lb’er. My 783 I rebarreled loves 40.5 grns with 140’s in Hornady brass. I get groups in the.1 to .3 Range at 100. I hope I can get good accuracy out of my 12 FV. It’s doing pretty good now but it can do better.
I think the flimsy plastic stocks are a hit and miss as far as being usable. I think if you get 1 that’s pretty straight in the action area, and being flexible, that it doesn’t stress the action when torqued down. I’ve had some that were pretty good and some that were terrible and required a lot of material to be removed or replaced all together.
I'm undecided now on what to do with it. I will probably shoot some reloads with it and see what it will do to 300. I don't want too heavy of a stock so I can still pack it around during deer season but at the same time have something more stable to use on the bench.
Just be sure to get the front bag or rest as far to the rear as possible to cut down on the forearm flex. It’s already capable of doing 300 hunting deer. Probably good enough for rabbits @ 300.
my 2 model 12FV's are both 1/2 MOA guns with the crummy factory stocks & hand loads. im on the fence about switching the stocks, let us know what you do and if you swap stocks how it works out for you.
Will do a stock exchange after Christmas....Boyd's or Choate...

My 6.5 isn't one of my main guns so I was thinking about filling the barrel channel with JB and using Devcon on the action.
#10 G.I. Vietnam. You got anymore ammo?
It wasn't that long ago where a sub moa factory rifle was rare.
Now you get a Savage for $200 and it's pretty much guaranteed sub-moa.
Not to mention the ballistics of recent bullets.
How times have changed... in this case for the better.
I agree. CNC machining is making it possible to recreate precision time after time with the only difference being the wear on the cutting tools. Probably got a program to take care of that. I think the barrels are getting better also, but it's a complete system. The bedding, truness of the action, triggers are definitely getting better, the optics, and ammo. Maybe we're trying to make " America Great Again "!!!!
I want to know how you guys are getting these for $200. I see $319 after rebate. What am I missing?
I got mine for 319 before the rebate. Black Friday Special.
Guess I missed that!
Store was out of them when I looked but could order it shipped to store for the discounted price. My rebate has been approved but not mailed yet. I usually miss out also but remembered it in time. Ordered mine late Friday evening just under the wire. They were $369.00 Saturday morning.
