Rifle Stock Art: A new art form?
Inspiration may come from a multitude of sources. The "raison d'etre" for this particular piece came to me as a result of observing a prairie deer mouse consuming D-Con. The title is "Peromyscian Saga" but that was only to conform to current conventions of nomenclature. Seems you have to title a piece something. Duh? I was always of the opinion that "abstract" was the very antithesis of convention. Ah well. The work is abstract while not abstract in totality. It is meant to convey a story. The journey of a diminutive and sometimes very secretive creature through her life. If carefully and thoughtfully observed one can see her tiny foot prints and those of her young as they scurry willy-nilly through life in search of sustenance and perhaps even life-way companions. Enjoy!

Oh yeah I see it now. Had to zoom it. Thanks man!
Have been a fan of German aircraft camo for years...especially the colors they used on some of their Focke Wulf 190D's in desert colors. When you back away from them, the pattern blends until there really isn't a pattern...that is the object. It is an Axis Heavy Barrel stock that I was going to sell but decided to use it for a 22-250 heavy barrel. Glad I did that since Savage apparently ain't gonna make them stocks no more and this one shoots really fine without a bunch of stock mods. Works for me.
Reminds me of pine bark. Looks good.
WOW deep really deep !!
OutStanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!
Need to over spray with a good matte finish any of you guys have a brand you like?
I have experimented with a couple of different clear coats from spar urethane and spray poly to what I now prefer, "Testors dull coat lacquer" from the hobby shop.
It dries really really hard and quick, never yellows, and kills the shine on everything I've tried it on including paints that weren't originally in flat finishes. Super flat, absolutely no shine and perfect for camo.

Thanks! Will give it a go.
Very nice! I get an impressionist alpenflage feeling from it.
Thanks Chris. That is what I had to use. Rustoleum Clear Dead Flat. Couldn't find any Testors. I live 140 miles from a hobby store.
