I use Pam.
I read on 6BR site from Rich Franklin, that he uses shoe polish as a release agent. But then I saw from BRS custom rifles, rifflar.com and it looks like he uses a spray of some kind of car polish maybe. I looked it up.
I think I would like to go the spray route only because of the voids in the action verses Franklin bedding his BAT actions with one void. ;D
What do you all use?
I use Pam.
I used the blue liquid that comes in my kits. I let it dry and reapply, then after it is completely dry I spray it down with Pam non-stick cooking spray. I amsure it is overkill but I would hate to have my action permanently stuck in a stock.
More shooting, less typing.

Dolomite
Kiwi Neutral Shoe polish, has worked for me on at least 5 different bedding jobs. Four Savage and one Anschutz.
Synlube 531 in the 14oz aerosol spray can. It is an industrial mold release agent. WOW would be an understatement.
What do you guys use to keep omelette's from sticking to the fry pan, or do your eggs taste like shoe polish?
Egg's are fine...but the pancake's ::)
MARINE tex, kiwi shoe polish works great. 8) dd
+2 on the Kiwi and I also use Johnsons's Paste wax. I started using the Kiwi maybe 5-6 years ago, the paste wax for at least the 20 years.Originally Posted by dolomite_supafly

One can of this will last the rest of your life and then some. Easy to find and cheap
A can of Kiwi will last years.
Oz never gave nothing to the Tin Man, that he didn't already have.
Hi there!
Bedding with Devcon and using Kiwi neutral shoe polish as release agent worked awesome good for me.
See some pics here (bedding a 12 VLP)

I use Kiwi Neutral shoe polish as a release agent for Devcon Steel Bedding. I quit using modeling clay to plug holes - too messy. If you're careful with it, you can cover all the gaps around the magazine and the slits in the rear of the action with electrical tape. I use electrical tape for the recoil lug , stock screws and barrel nut also - it's easier to use than masking tape and holds the release agent well. I've never stuck any tape into the bedding since I switched - can't say that about masking tape....

The masking tape goes on the outside and top of the stock next to the action so the bedding doesn't get all over the place. Better than trying to get the stuff off later.

I don't mask the stock. I found that bedding material seeps under the masking tape anyway, so I focused instead on getting the right amount of bedding material to minimize spillover. With Devcon steel, I use 270 grains of grey with 30 grains of white (9:1by weight) weighed in small plastic mouthwash cups. Once weighed, I scrape the white out, put it into the grey, double the cups, then mix in the doubled cups. Very little waste this way. This gives me just enough to do a short action rifle. Once I put the action in, I initially scrape off the excess with a sharpened popsicle stick, then I put a small wood block on the tang , fold a paper towel over it and the stock, then wrap it tightly with electrical tape. I repeat this about 2-3" in front of the barrel nut. Then I clean up the small amount of remaining overflow on the stock and action with q-tips and Butches Bore Shine (don't get them slopping wet) . Works for me.

i use Rem oil and devcon, no problems with that combo. all you need is something so it doesn't stick to the action side.
For one or two bedding jobs, I use kiwi. For multiple jobs I use Hornady one shot.
I was thinking about Hornady one shot. ::)
