I totally get your point.
Pulled out old faithful for a trip to the range today. This was my very first bolt gun that I bought for myself when I was 21 (used 10 in 223), and put what glass I could afford at the time... crappiest POS Simmons 3-9x50 you can imagine... I think the eye relief is about 1/8" deep, the FOV is horrendous, and the reticle looks like it's the thickness of my finger. Not a single thing has been touched on this rifle... stock flexes 1/4" if you sneeze within 5' of it, the bolt lift will rotate the rifle right off the table, and the trigger feels like 20 ft/units of beast. I've thought many times about tearing it apart & rebuilding it, but I just don't have the heart to... After coming off of a chassis built rifle, this is about the most grotesque thing to sit behind and shoot, but she's still my first.
I totally get your point.
She'll always be your first and you'll never forget her.
Nice to see that she still has what it takes even tho her components are not top notch.
I remember my first, a 243w and still have the barrel while the receiver is on a build. But the build is nevertheless another 243w.
Just like a pair of those favorite shoes, shirt or shorts. Still performs.
