Congratulations, sir. Welcome to the madness!
A few years ago, I bought a 1980's vintage 110LH in 308 with the intention of swapping barrels. I made the mistake of shooting it, and thus used it for a couple years deer hunting.
Over time, I acquired a new 24" 358 barrel and a take-off 22" 243. About 3 weeks ago, I decided to actually swap barrels. After much anxiety, it took me about 15 minutes with a Wheeler barrel vise, an ebay nut wrench, the wood blocks and some rosin. I now have a 358 bolt rifle in left hand, unobtanium on my budget. Whe I get old and feeble, it will be a 243.
Love it when a plan comes together.
Congratulations, sir. Welcome to the madness!
Before you know it you'll be eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches three times a day in an effort to funnel every penny possible to feed your new found appetite! Ha!
My goal is to have a "library" of barrels. A rack with several barrels with the appropriate bolt head and die set stored right below each one. I can get by with only two actions with stocks/chassis and cover about any centerfire caliber I want. Since I don't care about any caliber I can only get 20-30 rounds per pound of powder I won't need any "Magnum" action :)
Have you used go/no go gauge?
.308 is quite suitable from the cradle to the grave with H4895.
I was down loading 125s and 130s for the grandkids using it and then realized how much I like em myself. :)
Then you might be able to eat chicken and dumplings once in a while.
A good wife and a steady job has ruined many a great hunter.
Yep now four rifles and a Savage Striker later with multiple barrel swaps and many spare barrels plus barrels I've cut down to work with the Striker ! I'm always looking for a new deal or barrels but my best deal was my 7 mag barrel I bought second hand I've only taken it to 250yds so far but it shoots so good that it makes me look like I know what I'm doing !!

I bought an old "06 barrel and had JES rebore it to 35 whelen. It is currently mounted to an old 110CL. Now I have a 3 barrel system in short action and a 2 barrel setup in long/standard action. Who could ask for more?
