The hottest load I can muster from my 7.62x39 is 2250 fps. with a 160 grain FTX. That carries 1100 ft. lbs. to 200 yards, which IMO makes it a legit. 200-yard deer round. But only if I handload that combo. Factory loads I would never shoot a deer past 150.
And the 300BO cannot match those ballistics, which is why I say it's a 100 yard deer round max. Sure, people will shoot, and kill, deer and pigs beyond that. But why, when there are so many better low-recoil options? Just to say you did?
I did a lot of research on the 300BO and 7.62x39 before I ultimately decided on the 7.62x39. The more I studied, the more I realized the 300BO just didn't make much sense in a bolt action. The 7.62x39 however, makes a lot of sense in a bolt action.
Just my .02. I know there are plenty of 300BO fans out there who will disagree. But math is math.
