I thought it be cool to have a thread to show off your "Top Shots"
Be it your longest target hit/longest confirmed kill etc
Pics of the target and rifle used with brief description of the rifle are strongly encouraged. Let's give the new shooters to long range something to look forward to
3 hits at 1,792 yards (1.02 miles)
Target is through the V in the trees on the next hill
Milk jug at 1,428 yards. Fired 6 shots. 2 hit jug, another hit steel target that was behind jug (the one next to me in the pic). Not to shabby for the first time at that distance
1 lbs IMR powder container at 1,440 yards. The beer can in bottom pic is for size comparison
Longest Kill Shot on November 28 2015 at 1,121 yards - Whitetail Doe
The Rifle:
260 Remington
Savage Action/CBI Barrel/Mcree Chasis/Sightron SIII Scope
Same rifle used for all of these shots

1845yds...target right at the bottom of the dot.
if i remember correctly it was 18-20* 0-7mph wind a LOT of beer the night before and my spotter was a no show.....
savage 110BA 300 win mag
28" shilen select match
night force ATACR
208g hornady match 2920FPS
RL-22 WAY over book max
3 hits right target...the plywood target was a reference...the mirage/glare was so bad i could just barely make out the yellow flags on the targets....
now the sad part...i shot 35 rounds that day and only 3 impacts but the conditions were no where near ideal and i was also a little impaired LOL. i shot that rifle pretty regularly to a mile and all the time to 1600yds and closer.

I'm aware of that, but again were talking about accurately shooting, and not just shooting.
Early on, most shooters are amased as to just how far they personaly can shoot.
And we can thank not the guns, but the type scopes we have for allowing that to happen.
But ultimately, those who are serious about it become aware of the limitations of both themselves, and the equiptment.
Distance can also mean different things in different parts of the country, due to elevation and air quality.
In the west you might be looking at a mountain range thru your windshield that's still several hours driving time away.
That dosent happen in the east. I can show pics that would show ridge top after ridge top as far as you can see.
But as far as you can see might on a good day be 20 miles or less. That's not caused by smog, but by moisture.
For hunting in pa, a 300 wm would be max, about a 1200 yd gun.
Now you can choose to believe that, or you can choose to laugh about it.
If you cant hit the target, or at least be very close, (every time) you shoot, either get closer, or get a better gun.
Otherwise it might be a good idea to recheck the definitions of insanity. lol
I will say this however, if I had been sitting behind Long Range as he shot, he would have either had more hits, or we would have quit trying before he fired 35 shots.
And there my friend is the key that opens the lock for long range shooting. And the sooner you come to recognize that, the sooner it will be till you graduate from being a lead slinger to a shooter.
Dale Earnhart with all his talent, probably wouldn't complete 25 laps around the Daytona track without spotters on the roof.
If you were to go to a place like Williamsport with a 1 hole capable gun, theres a good chance you would have trouble even getting on paper without help from a spotter.
Now I'm going to throw another bomb into the mix and tell you why I said me sitting behind Long Range and not his friend. The reason for that is I have good optics for spotting and they don't. lol
EXACTLY what I meant in post #5 lol.

Trigger puller is not much in the LR equation. Almost anyone can shoot 1 MOA. Most people can shoot .5MOA. With a 6PPC many can shoot under .25MOA.
Calculating and spotting is 95% of the LR game. Pulling the trigger is 5%. I put a lot of people on my guns and they hit stuff 10X further than they had ever shot with data.
My effectiveness went up drastically when I could spot my shots, if I couldn't I quit shooting. Shooting without feedback is just making noise.
I didn't shoot steel much, we had rocks set in vertical red dirt bluffs that were perfect, you can even spot your own shot to some extent. That and water. Water is an awesome spotter.
I can see why people think LR is some kind of VOODOO. It isn't, its math. Being able to spot is VOODOO.
If you cant get feedback, you will never improve. Put your LR targets in a pond or a bluff face with no grass.
Great pics Longrange.
Was kinda hoping when I made this thread that we could keep it to picture of targets/guns that people would enjoy looking at. Just post regarding shots your proud of. Doesn't matter how many times you shoot or what fancy equipment you have. Doesn't even matter if you just layed behind some random gun of your buddy's.
If your proud of your long range shot/kill please post it.
Nice shooting LongeRange
Few more I'm proud of:
Left to Right
Craze Preworkout Container- 308 Win- 800 yds
Soup Can- 308 Win- 800 yds
Imr 4064 container (same pictured above) 260 Rem- 1440 yds
Mountain Dew- 308 Win- 1085 yds
Pepsi Bottle- 260 Rem- 1059 yds
Mountain Dew- 308 Win- 765 yds
Olive Oil container- 308 Win- 800 yds
Busch Light Can- 260 Rem- 880 yds
Jack3d Preworkout Container- 308 Win- 700 yds
Soup can- 308 Win- 740 Yards
Whitetail Deer- 1,000 Yards- 338 LM
Kinda funny the containers. Drink the Jacked and Craze with some Mountain Dew and try to make a 800 yd shot, LOL.
Great shooting and great idea. I've never kept trophies I may try to start, looks cool.
Of course I always fill containers with water as the wind blows a lot where I shoot. A 338 on a water filled container=no trophies.

Nice rigs/pics XL105. That's what this thread is about!!!
My next goal is what I call the "Shooter Shot". Dinty Moore soup can at a mile as seen on the movie "Shooter".
Except my bullet will enter the scope from the top due to gravity. Not enter from the bottom of the scope as the movie depicts. Annoys my every time I watch it lol. If you don't believe me watch this part and you'll see the swirl come in from the bottom. I know it's a movie but aaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

The longer hits got easier with the 260. That 308 would start getting sloppy around 1000. So looking at your rigs you have a great start

You'll go well past 1000 with that. My 260 still amazes me.
I'll post a few more I found on my phone in a bit
Sorry I re read what I wrote. When I said "that 308" I was referring to the 308 I used for several of my shots. Not implying you had one. I should've looked at that better lol
Milk jug cap at 500 yards. This was a pretty easy hit with the 260
Egg at 700 yards- 260 Rem
Egg has masking tape holding it to the string in the pic. Painted orange cause white egg/white target....no see
Be nice if I could post vids on here. I recorded my milk cap shot/egg shot/1428 yard milk jug shot/880 yard beer can shot and 1440 yard IMR 4064 jug shot. Also recorded one of the Mountain Dew can shots but sun washes out the can with the white target behind it

Milk cap was easy to see. Egg was just a bit harder. Shooting with a 32 power Sightron SIII. Several of the posted targets were 1 st or 2nd round hits. More than not tho it took a small adjustment from the original to get honed in. The egg shot I never missed the 2/3 ispc steel target behind it but it took I think 7 to hit the egg. Remember that even a gun throwing 1/2 moa at 700 is shooting about 3.5" group. 5" at 1000. So even with all things corrected and perfected the shot may still not connect. Egg and golf ball are under 2" targets (guessing as I don't golf) Figured I point this out before the shot count police tell you that it can't be done lol
XL105, if you want I'd be happy to send you a video to really get you going. I can send the 1440 imr 4064 shot. About 15 seconds and pretty easy to see. On iPhone at least. I know Samsung distorts it. But worth a shot. Pm phone number if you want. Id be willing to send to you cause I think you have the positive attitude it takes to appreciate the shot : )
LongRange: I'd be willing to send to you to lol
