Old but Hunt worthy for sure.

Check the headspace with factory ammo and 2 pieces of masking tape on the head of the brass (base). If the bolt doesn't close, you're good to go. Tight headspace would not allow the bolt to close with 1 layer of masking tape on the head, but factory ammo brass is usually undersized just a hair, hence the 2 pcs of tape instead of 1.

I love the idea of hunting with old rifles. In 2 weeks I'll be hunting deer with a 1954 Russian SKS 7.62x39.

New Savage receivers have a round rear. Yours is flat so if you wanna get scope bases this is important to know.
