6.5x284 is a solid choice for hunting! Many good 6.5 bullets to choose from whether you're going to be up close or a couple hundred yards out. It's basically a "30-06" variant of the 260Rem.
I was looking for a 6.5 x 284 Norma and found one right here in the Pittsburgh area. A wife bought the gun for Husband and Husband did not want that. I picked it up at a shop on Neville Island I think. Had to use GPS to find it or I would still be lost. It's a Savage. Putting a SWFA SS 10x42 with badger rings. Would this be a reasonable gun for deer hunting? Oh, I'm originally from Texas and I am not in the oil and gas industry LOL. I also just ordered a ER Shaw MK VII in 220 Swift (Bridgeville, PA) they have licensed Savage actions and I think will be an accurate rifle with right scope.
