Simply a barrel change. If you look in your loading manuals, you will see the case specs and read about the cartridges.
The 308 is, for all practical purposes, the 30-06-short.
I would like to rebarrel my rifle in 308.Just wondering what exactly needs to be done to accomplish this.Is it just a matter of purchasing a 308 barrel headspacing,nd change the bolt face or is there more involved such as changing more parts or machinng?

So bolt face is same size also?

You may have difficulty getting. 308 Win to feed from a .30-06 magazine. Shorter rounds have a tendency to nosedive in my longer mags. If the long magazines work with .308 Winchester rounds in you rifle, excellent! If not, and if you want it to work reliably as a repeater, you may need the shorter magazine, which will necessitate a short magazine stock.
Not a problem in my long action, blind mag .308, formerly .270. I just make sure I load them all the way back in the magazine.
Out of curiosity, is that a stagger or center feed? I only have experience with my Axises, but I noticed the nosediving when trying to load .308 Winchester through a long action (center feed, obviously) magazine. It was especially pronounced with the last round or when I was working the action quickly.
I've re-barreled 3 different long action, stagger-feed 110's to short actions with no feeding issues. Most radical was 7mm RM to 22-250. I tweeked the lips JUUUUUST a tad, but nothing else.

DrThunder88, in answer to your question, it is a stagger feed.
Thank you. I have no experience with those. I didn't know if there might be a difference in terms of feeding short rounds (or datas, for that matter).
