Pic rails set the scope too high for my taste, can't get a good cheek weld. I prefer Burris 2 piece steel bases and whatever height rings get the scope bell just off the barrel. My 2˘.
Looking for a pictanny rail for my Savage 10 FCM 7.62x39. Bought the wrong one off Amazon and don't want to make the same mistake twice. Also looking for an optic recommendation. Attached is a picture of the factory rail.
Not sure if I want to go red dot or scope. Leaning towards a scope, it will mostly be a range toy shooting to a max distance of 200 yards. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks !

Check out Evolution Gun Works as they make some decent stuff and I'm sure they have what you need. This one here should work: http://www.egwguns.com/index.php?p=product&id=1284
I have no idea if this is correct and I wouldn't do it, but I found this picture.

Does the base mount to the barrel or only the action?
Scope base to action only. I had no idea people tried it the way pictured above.
I'm trying to understand what you're after. Are you wanting the scope in the traditional position, or the forward "scout" position?
With a legit. scout scope, you have massive eye relief. I enjoy shooting Scout-scoped rifles at the range. However in the field on game, esp. moving game, I find them a bit lacking due to such a limited field of view. It's taken me a little too long to find the critter in the scout scope more than once. So for that application, a traditional scope with a wider FOV will win. But to me at least, the scout scope feels "tactical" and I like it for plinking. No worries whatsoever about scope eye.
I have a Savage 10 Scout on the way, and I intend to take my Weaver 4x scout scope and mount it in the forward position to see how I like it on that gun. Right now, it sits on my Win M94, but it just doesn't seem right to have a scope on that rifle, no matter how many times I've tried different arrangements.
So the M10 Savage scout will hopefully be my short to mid-range "brush" gun. We'll see.
