When they decided that seating a bullet .010" deeper was just too much work. I have never understood the reason for the creeds existence or understand why it seems to be much more popular than a cartridge we have had for nearly two decades.
When did they change the name from 260 to 6.5 Creedmoor?

RUMs are like woman in Stiletto heals, you know they are going to put you in the poor house, but that has never stopped anyone from pursuing them.

They didn't change the name. They're two completely different cartridges. Some prefer the creedmoor because it's easier to use as a repeater.
No No I know what a 260 rem is, but wasn't it called 260 creedmoor when it first came out.

Interesting question Dean, but I see no mention of 260 Creedmoor in its infancy....at least according to this... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.260_Remington
Probably better info out there somewhere, but looks like it could have easily been called the 6.5-08 A-Square.
It must have been a regional thing.

No, actually it was a hair's breath away from being the '6.5-08 A-Square', the 308 Win simply necked to .264 the same as when it was a wildcat. It was also called the 263 Express.
The Creedmoor is essentially the old wildcat 6.5-250 Improved but with a 30 shoulder instead of the more common 40, the forth cartridge in this lineup ....
That example is from the mid '80s time frame. Number 2 is the 6-250 Imp 40, aka; 6 Creedmoor today. It was also made in 20,30 and 35 degree versions.

Perhaps this will help. http://demigodllc.com/articles/6.5-c...60-done-right/
I know that Jim Carmichael used a cat name for his .260 initially, I am thinking he called it the .260 Panther and the .260 Creedmoor like case the .260 Bobcat. But I don't think the Bobcat used Creedmoor dimensions. The shoulder was not as sharp. Maybe that is where you got this.
I was in a debate between a 260 or 6.5 creedmore for my next build. What swayed my decision is the fact that I can easily get Lapua brass for the 260. Not to mention that in a pinch, I can neck down 7mm-08 or 308 to 6.5 or neck up a 243. Everything else is a wash IMO.
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
