In all honesty I believe his designs are superior. Who else has done so much for ballistics and bullet design than Berger and Bryan Litz? I think the Hybrids came about to solve a marketing problem more so than a design problem. Personally I have never found a Berger VLD any harder to tune than any other bullet but I know I am in the minority in that. Lots of people were saying that the VLDs were hard to get to shoot and they required much more load work up than other bullets and they "HAD" to be jammed into the lands in order to shoot well, all of which is false. The new hybrid designs fix all that but that's not to say that the VLD is not a superior design. Bottom line is Berger Bullets has been making far superior bullets for quite awhile and why we are seeing others like Nosler with their ABLR and Sierra with their new Tipped Match Kings playing catch up to gain back a little market share.
