Beautiful 99. I have a cherished 99 in 250-3000 that was my grandfathers and was handed down to me. It wears a Weaver 4x along with a Lyman flip up. Nice white tail rifle. Enjoy yours, TB

I just received the family 250-3000 savage. It is stamped [b]model 1895 on the barrel the ser# is 171615 with the same ser # on the stock under the but plate with the #'s 65 also the stock is straight with no diamond etching. it Has been in the family since 1971 I read somewhere that some savage shooters are saying that this may be a model 99 so I am now puzzled. can you help with this quandary.

It's a model 1899 250-3000, not sure why it would be stamped 1895????? Sure your not reading it wrong or it was punched lightly?

Should be stamped SAVAGE HI_PRESSURE STEEL
    MODEL 1899

Could be a model 1895. Savage did make a model 1895 then a model 1899 then a model 99 followed by all the C's D's E's etc. Your 1895 would have a smooth straight grip stock just like my model 1895 in 303 Savage.

The 250-3000 didn't come out until 1914 and the 1895 was only offered in 303 sav, so it wouldn't have 1895 on the barrel.

Wonder if it was rebarreled at some point and some unscrupulous person re-stamped the barrel. Overall still a pretty cool gun!

:) Thank you all for the information the stamp on the barrel was stamped on an angle that is why the last 9 on the model 1899 looks like a 5. it also has two holes on top back behind the magazine for a sight. it also has a rear sight in front of the magazine on the barrel also, Was this normal?
