Same outside diameter. The large shank only offers more meat in the barrel at the chamber area.
I will be placing an order soon for a 6.5x55 barrel for a build and I do not have the donor action yet. Is the large shank receiver stronger than the smaller shank receiver? If I am going to use a heavier barrel such as a varmint and free float it does that large shank give more support to the barrel or are the outside dimensions the same thus the small shank receiver actually has more metal around the threading area? thanks

Truthfully there seem to be more readily available barrels for the small shank that are ready to be shipped.
Willing to give back for what the sport has done for me!
You will be limiting yourself with a large shank, 95% of Savage barrels are small shank.

I just wanted to check before I ordered the barrel. thanks
