Savage- "never say never".
My 99 is in for a trigger job. Ill be hunting w/ it come Nov 15th and shooting it when it comes back, assuming snow is gone.
Smith is or will be on a one month vacation to warmer climes and then I hope Im near the top of his projects.
Mine has a Weaver K4 w/ post on it.
Very nice gun, i started hunting in 1947 which was the hay day period for 99 Savages.
Both my father and brother had that exact rifle. I thought Savage ruined it's looks when they
stopped using the scnabel forend.
Now all you need is a clasic Woolrich dark red plaid hunting outfit to match the gun.
It also wasent unusual to find a hunter wearing that outfit along with a hunting scene necktie in that era.
Front fenders on cars were for transporting deer lol.
Woolrich still carries that line as i saw it in their store a few months ago.
Johnson woolens in Vermont also carries a very nice line of classic wool clothes.
good looking rifle
Very nice!
I took a similar "nostalgic" walk in the woods with my new-to-me Savage 99F on the first day of deer season last fall, and it was a Great Day In The Woods with an Old Savage 99
I hope you enjoy your hunt as I did!
Good luck.
