Welcome to the forum! Thank you for your service on this Veteran's Day. And hang on to that wife!
Hi all. Another new guy checking in. I live in NW Indiana. U.S. Army Retired/Disabled. (put in 28 years) I'm a new Savage owner. Got my first, and only Savage last summer. My wife (of 19 years) gave it to me for my 50th birthday. (took her long enough to come around) She got me an Axis in .308. I started researching the Axis, as I have never heard of it, and found this site. Now people don't normally put high dollar scopes on $300 rifles, but this new Axis came with a Tasco 3x9 scope that I will likely put on my 10/22. I have a Leupold 8.5x25 LR/T left over from a rifle I had to sell a while back. (the wife remembered the rifle I sold was a .308. Love that woman) The scope is over-kill for this gun, but it's what I have. One good thing, I'm glad to be reading some good things about such a budget rifle. With my old tired eyes and what could be a nice rifle, it may just work out good. I've only had it out once so far. Got most of the barrel break-in done. The stock has to go. Figured that one out real fast. Got one on order from Boyds. I plan on changing the bolt handle, and having the bolt spiral fluted. A new trigger will be next, and I will have the barrel shortened and re-crowned. Despite the powerful glass, I'll never shoot at anything over 300 yards. I plan to make it accurate as I can, but long range is not my goal. I'll probably end up trading the scope off for something lighter, but with the same quality in the future. Well, I guess I'll get to exploring the site...

Welcome aboard
When I took my firearms course (Canada) One thing the instructor told us is don't buy a 1000 rifle with a 300 scope. Get the 300 rifle with the 1000 scope instead. There is no overkill on scopes I guess. Thanks for serving as well.
Yeah, I believe in having good glass. I'm going to build it up like the fancy hunting rifles I used to lust after years ago. I'm going to keep the factory action and skinny barrel. (unless it don't shoot well) That may look odd with the big tactical scope on top.
Welcome - thank you for your service.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Learning as I go about these Savage rifles.
You know what I like best about people? Their dogs.
My Boyd's stock came in today. Beautiful! I love it. Can't wait to shoot it. Gonna have to wait. They sent a long action, I ordered short action. Bummed.
