acmetim,
I have not had to resize yet. The Barnes 250 TEZ's I give a slight knurl to fit a bit more snug. I have a pack of 300 grain Match Hunters on there way and they are supposed to be perfect out of the pack for these McGowan barrels. I have looked and those dies and can not make up my mind on smooth vs full form either. I do have the barrel drop for mine so I could get a full form but with a smooth die I could use it on multiple guns???
And I say pull the trigger on getting a McGowan barrel, you wont be sorry!
Careful hanging out over here omega, you might just get hooked on another hobby!
Already did. I have a Savage Target Action that should be at my local FFL in a few days. Not sure what I want to do yet though. It might just be wearing a .400/.408 McGowen barrel though. Haha
Hey EdKin did you ever get your put together?
Yeah it's together. I finally got it scoped and all the stuff together for the season. I have been so busy the last couple of months I haven't been shooting it yet. I missed the last couple of weeks with cool (for August) temps now that I've got some time it back to 95-100 degrees. I hope to get a few rounds out of it this weekend. I'm going to try the 275 MH over 4198 might do a 4759/4198 duplex.
Just checking in to see the progress on this.
Thanks!!
I have been shooting mine with 70gr of H-4198 and Parker 275 MH and BE's (cheaper to practice with) a 8 shot string over the chrony had an average of 2715 with an es of 16. I only have one picture on the phone of a group that was shot last week at 100 with a 15-20mph wind quartering from behind left to right measured .74 ctc
No. You have to buy the breech plug seperate. Mine uses a tungsten bushing instead of a vent liner that traditional savages use.
Well It Certainly Gets Your Attention lol. The saboted loads I started with were around .243 levels, very easy shooting. The full power sabotless loads I have worked up to Are fairly hard kicking. I was shooting it along side my lightweight 30-06 a couple weeks ago and the 30-06 kicks significantly less. I have a large enough build and young and dumb enough to enjoy heavy kickers.
This is an awesome thread !!!
No. Thats pretty much a DIY project if you want the rod on the gun. Smokelessmz sells 3 piece collapsible bungee corded ramrods in a nylon sheath which pack easy in a hunting vest pocket and deploy quick for reloads.
Very impressive muzzle loader!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Retired sniper. You can run, But you will only die tired!!!
