RUMs are like woman in Stiletto heals, you know they are going to put you in the poor house, but that has never stopped anyone from pursuing them.
I'm a big fan of Burris products. It doesn't hurt that they have a killer rebate on the Fullfield 2s right now.
A good wife and a steady job has ruined many a great hunter.
+1 on both of these. Burris Fullfield 2 4.5-14x42 is great.
Also don't overlook this one:

I have one and have used it on my .308 out to 600yds with no problem. I initially had dismissed it because I wasn't familiar with the brand name and it sounded cheap. But it had many of the features I wanted, and was offered at a great price, so I was interested. When I found out that Millet is owned by Bushnell, and offered a solid warranty, I decided to try it. I've been using it on various .308's for a few years now, and have not been disappointed. A few caveats- the adjustable objective knob is large. And the scope is overall rather large and heavy. But I think this is because it is built robustly. Also available in black for $10 more.
Many, many good scopes are available in your price range.
Vortex Viper if you can find one on sale, This is a great little gun!
