Bein from texas i hunted hogs all year long and dispatched plenty. While i usually on took a handful a week my neighbors would take upwards of 70 some. Now that im stationed at ft campbell i have a craving but nobody knows where to find any
We've killed around 30 in a week but that don't happen very often. I usually kill around a hundred a year.
Dang!
You should try East TN. It supposed to be over run.
Anybody ever eat these beasts, or are they just pests?
You know what I like best about people? Their dogs.
I know you have posted before but what Gun and caliber you using on these porkers?
Exactly as said. A large domesticated one tastes much better however if you soak them in a brine ( i think thats what its technical name is ) salt water ice bath then its not as pungent.
Ive taken freshly killed within 30min and cooked them up with no weird tastes. Granted i smoke most my meats while cooking em.
Mossy, We've use just about everything from .223, to 300 mags, bolt actions, leverguns and AR's over the years.
I am still itching to hammer one with the .338 Edge to see what that kind of horsepower will do on'em.
But I really enjoy bow hunting for them the most whenever it's an option.
in my part of Texas anything over 125# feeds the coyotes and buzzards. Sows less than 125# get eaten. Although this entire deer season I have hunted allot and not seen one hog..........Saw 4 coyotes in one pack and 2 bob cats at once.
Got this texas hog two days ago 10 minutes in. I usually see 30+ more but this boar was a lone wolf. 20acres that ive seen so far has been rutted in the front pasture where they normally avoid. With the amount of devastation i was thinkin id see more. In my excuse ive been away from home at my duty station so the sounder may have moved on.
One less vermin to mess things up. Good Job........
Awesome......sounds like a hoot !!!
