I actually have a 93 17hmr also
Hello all ! I bought my first Savage yesterday. An older model (non accu trigger)12 long action, SS, fluted bull barrel, .308, 5.062" screw spacing, staggered blind magazine. It has a synthetic stock, question is where can I find a stock for this gun? Laminated ?
I actually have a 93 17hmr also
Boyd's, Stocky's among others.
FROGGY
See profile for fire arms
Do it today there maybe no tomorrow
If it is 5.062" spacing then you actually have a long action (if factory built probably has the short action magazine in it). Any stock designed for the 110, 111, 112, 114, or 116 staggerfeed models will fit. Watch for the barrel channel size as you should have a varmint barrel on that (if a factory rifle). Most stocks can be easily opened up to accept that barrel if needed.
Boyds and Stockys are good places to start looking.

Most only carry short action stocks, if i buy a 110 ect they have different magazines. mine is a blind mag, can it be converted?
Yes you could make it a DBM (detachable) magazine, but There are quite a few stocks out there for the 110 LA-SF models. What stock were you looking at specifically?

Just a boyds or something like that
So, a 110 stagger fed, blind mag, with 5 and 1/16 screw spacing will work on this gun ?
or a 110 detachable mag stock and PTG trigger guard and AICS mag ? That would be sweet, is it possible guys ?

PTG makes the bottom metal for the LA
Thank you for your help, I'm new to savages.
But the real question is: Do you have a true long action or the long action that has the short action mag cut out?
If you have the true long action then you are good to go, if you have the long action with the short mag then you need to make sure that's the bottom metal you are looking at.

5.062 spacing on action screws
Yes rugermack, I understand the spacing, but in this case there may be more to it.
The 5.062" actions were at one time offered with a long magazine for 30-06 or 300WM length rounds, and they were also offered with magazines for the 22-250, 243, 308, and even 223 sized rounds.
If you just want a regular blind mag, then any blind mag stock for the 5.062" spacing will work fine.
If you want a DBM set up with bottom metal and AICS type mags, then you need a stock inlet for the DBM metal you are wanting and you need to know which magazine length you have. If you have the 30-06 length magazine then standard long action bottom metal for a staggerfeed is what you need. If you have the 308 size magazine then you need the special bottom metal that works with 5.062" spaced actions that have the smaller 308 sized magazine.

Thanks, that makes sense to me, Do you know the mag measurements? I do know the COAL's for each cartridge, I guess I can go by that. I appreciate your knowledge on these guns. I will eventually figure it all out. I will post the info because it might help someone else. Typically LA for .308 is odd.
Savage used to make all of their bolt actions off of the Long Action. Then over time they made different short actions. It can be confusing.
Yup just measure, if there is no earthly way a loaded 30-06 will even come close to fitting in your mag, then you have the short mag.
With Savages it is very possible that you have a franken-gun that was a regular long action that someone slapped a 308 barrel onto. No matter, it will still work great if that's the case, but you need to know if you are going for a DBM. If sticking with blind mag then it doesn't matter (with the long actions, true short actions with 4.52" 4.27" or 4.40" spacing is a totally different story) as long as your stock is for the 5.062" staggerfeed action with blind mag.
Good luck and let us know how you make out.

My .30-06 reloads for my m77 fit with atleast .200 clearance to the end of the mag. I guess that makes it a LA/long mag. My .30-06 reloads are seated out pretty far. COAL is 3.2985, max is 3.340. with Hornady SST 165.
I ordered a Boyds 110 stock sf, blind mag.
I guess my gun is a strange bird
You probably have a franken-gun, and that's ok. That is the great thing about Savages. Someone at one time probably had a 30-06 or 25-06 112BVSS and decided a 308 better suited them, and since 308 will feed great from a 30-06 mag, there you go.
You just need parts for the Standard 110 Long Action is Staggerfeed.

Franken-gun thats funny. I bought it because I like buying/trying things out, if for some reason I don't like a gun, I sell and buy something different. I hope this works out. I also the fact I can change barrels(bolt face) with this gun. I have no plans to change it, but the opportunity is there. I decided not to spend the money on the DBM. I'll put the money into the optics instead.

Good call on the optics. DBM's are helpful, but not really needed for most types of shooting.
