Also, since the irons have been removed, I'd really like to add them back on there. I like the folding leaf if thats the year appropriate but the parts on numrich have different letter suffixes and I don't know which one I need
Afternoon Gents,
So, around the time of this last Christmas, I ventured in to gun store down here and came upon a really good looking 99 in .243. Loved it, never owned one, fell in love and absolutely love the 243. So, I traded a beat up Gen 1 Glock 17 for it as since it was Christmas and my wife just had our daughter, I was low on cash. Great trade in my opinion. Anyhow, I've tried to do some research on them and I believe this is a more recent rifle as its in really good shape and that its in .243. Savage99.com just states that it was after 1951 and theres a few hints leading to that. Its drilled and tapped for a scope and a crappy Tasco will be getting replaced by something here soon. The front and rear sight were removed. It has a Schnabel fore end, straight grip, the safety is different and the letter stamping on the lever is not there. Also, says the "Westfield, Mass." address. I have a couple pics I took when I stopped by the house earlier. Can anyone help date this thing? (MadDog, I'd appreciate it. I just saw the sticky on the top and now have a jealousy/inferiority complex)
Thanks for taking the time,
Matt

You have a 99A made from 1971-1981. Pretty hard to find in 243, should be an excellent shooting rifle. Edited to add, yes the folding rear sight is correct.
Thanks fireball, I know I got the best end in that trade! I appreciate your time
Made in 1978.
Savage- "never say never".
