I have not used the mercury type but have had very good results with the mechanical type. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/138...r-x-4-1-4-long I actually spent some trigger time with a local acquaintance testing several mechanical prototypes which he has now patented as the AR A1 recoilless stock. http://www.arrecoilless.net/AR-Recoi...Stock-P55.aspx The testing was done with the AR limited to single shot to prevent the buffer spring from interfering with the results of the recoil impulse as recorded on an accelerometer. there were different spring rates and weights used to optimize performance specifically for the .450 BM It really tamed the .450 Bushmaster and turned it from an angry mule to a kitty cat. Very impressive indeed. They don't simply reduce felt recoil but the actual recoil impulse as shown by the graphing done with the aid of the accelerometer.http://www.arrecoilless.net/Recoil-R...Tests-P69.aspx In my opinion they are great products and I know they actually work. Not simply voodoo.

Here's John going full auto with the .450BM at 10 rounds per second. just the fact that he can do this oughta say something about his product.
